Sagargad is a fort just 6 km before Alibaug. The weather on the fort after the onset of the southwest monsoon is just amazing. The route to the fort takes you through waterfalls, temples and lush green surroundings during the monsoon season.
The origins of this fort are not well documented except for the fact that it came under various rulers as the years passed by, the Siddhis, Marathas and British all had this fort under their rule at different times in history.

The route from Khandale village is well marked and takes you thru water streams and lush green surroundings.
After a 15 - 20 minute walk from Khandale, you will have to cross a small water stream. On crossing this water stream you will see a series of steps, after a 45 min hike from here you will see the Siddheshwar temple and a water stream passing near it which forms the Dhodhane waterfall.
Leave the temple behind and take a left after which you will reach a small village on the top after 15 minutes. The hike from here to Sagargad should take another 45 minutes.

Head towards Khandale Village via Bus from Panvel ST Bus-stand

Board a bus from Panvel S.T bus stand heading towards Alibaug via the Pen route and get down at Khandale Village.
Since this is not a frequent stop you will have to inform the conductor.

Walk towards end of Khandale Village

ETA 30 min

Since the start of the route is towards the end of Khandale village you will have to walk for 3 - 4 Km before the route to the trek starts.

Hike to Sagargad fort

ETA 2.5 hrs

Hike the well-marked route which takes you thru water streams and lush green surroundings.

This route is not much used and during the rainy season, it might be difficult to find the path due to grown vegetation.
Both the routes meet at a common point on the top just before the fort.

Camping

One can camp on the fort, however, you will have to carry your own food and water. Water would be available on the fort till the months of November.
